Advisory Board Directive
Part One
Purpose, Scope, Legal Basis and Definitions
Purpose
ARTICLE 1 – (1) The purpose of this directive is to establish an advisory board and determine its working principles in order to ensure cooperation and the sustainability of cooperation between the Department of Foreign Language Education, English Language Education Program at TED University and public and private sector institutions as well as other stakeholders.
Scope
ARTICLE 2 – (1) This directive covers the principles related to the activities of the advisory board established in order to ensure cooperation and the sustainability of cooperation between the Department of Foreign Language Education, English Language Education Program at TED University and public and private sector institutions as well as other stakeholders.
Legal Basis
ARTICLE 3 – (1) This directive has been prepared in accordance with Article 44 (f) of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and the Regulation on the Establishment of Advisory Boards in Higher Education Institutions published in the Official Gazette dated 08.10.2016 and numbered 29851 by the Council of Higher Education.
Definitions
ARTICLE 4 – (1) University refers to TED University.
ARTICLE 4 – (2) Unit refers to the Department of Foreign Language Education, English Language Education Program at TED University.
ARTICLE 4 – (3) University Advisory Board refers to the advisory board established under the Division of English Language Teaching within the Department of Foreign Language Education at TED University.

Bodies, Duties and Responsibilities
Department Advisory Board
ARTICLE 5 – (1) The Division Advisory Board aims to strengthen the relationship between the relevant professional community and the program/department and to ensure the contributions of faculty members, students, and practitioners to the program’s educational objectives and course content.
Determination of Board Members
ARTICLE 6 – (1) The board shall consist of 5–10 members, including students, alumni, faculty members (internal and external), representatives from different areas of the profession, and the head of the division.
ARTICLE 6 – (2) At least one-third of the board members must be from outside academia, and the student representative must be elected or determined by elected representatives.
Term of Office of Board Members
ARTICLE 7 – (1) The term of office of advisory board members is limited to three years. Members whose term has expired may be reappointed.
ARTICLE 7 – (2) If members appointed as representatives of their institutions cease to hold their positions in those institutions, their membership on the board also ends. A new member may be selected by following the procedure used for the selection of the previous member.
Duties of the Advisory Board
ARTICLE 8 – (1) The duties of the Advisory Board are as follows:
- To present advisory recommendations to the Unit in order to strengthen the relationship between the relevant professional community and the program/department and to ensure contributions from faculty members, students, and professional practitioners to the program’s educational objectives and course content.
- To evaluate opinions and recommendations developed by the advisory board within their fields and to provide opinions and recommendations regarding planned activities.
- To evaluate requests and recommendations from public and private sector institutions, organizations, professional chambers, and non-governmental organizations.
- To support practical applications in relevant fields through cooperation with external institutions and organizations.
- To make recommendations to the relevant unit administrators regarding the updating of course curricula and particularly how practice-oriented courses should be implemented.
- To coordinate scientific activities such as projects, seminars, thesis studies, panels, symposiums, and workshops related to the needs of the public and private sectors in relevant professional fields.
- To conduct activities aimed at transferring the knowledge and experience of the public and private sectors to students and increasing their motivation.
- To make advisory decisions in line with national and international developments.
- To present the decisions taken by the Advisory Board in the form of a report.
Working Procedures and Principles of the Advisory Board
ARTICLE 9 – (1) During meetings, keeping the minutes and preparing the board activity report is the responsibility of the unit secretariat.
ARTICLE 9 – (2) The Advisory Board shall convene at least once a year upon the call of the Head of the Department with written invitations sent to all members by the unit secretariat. Meeting dates are announced in writing by the unit secretariat.
ARTICLE 9 – (3) The Advisory Board shall convene at least twice a year, during the fall and spring semesters, upon invitation sent by the unit secretariat to all members. Meeting dates are announced in writing by the board secretariat.
ARTICLE 9 – (4) When necessary, the board may convene for extraordinary meetings upon the call of the Head of the Division. Board members review the agenda determined by the Chair and sent to them in advance and submit their opinions and recommendations in writing to the Chair.
ARTICLE 9 – (5) The board convenes with the absolute majority of its full membership and decisions are taken by the absolute majority of those present. In case of a tie, the side supported by the chair of the board is considered the majority.
Provisional Agenda
ARTICLE 10 – (1) The provisional agenda of the board meetings is determined by the relevant board chair. The final agenda is decided by the board.
ARTICLE 10 – (2) The provisional agenda, including a report on the previous meeting and developments after the meeting, is sent in writing to members by the Chair prior to the meeting.
ARTICLE 10 – (3) Minutes taken during the meeting are sent in writing to the board members after the meeting.
ARTICLE 10 – (4) External members of the advisory board are provided with information about the University’s vision and mission, the goals of the relevant units, departments and programs, course curricula, and the Advisory Board Directive.

Enforcement and Implementation
Enforcement
ARTICLE 11 – This directive was accepted by the decision of the Division of English Language Teaching within the Department of Foreign Language Education at TED University dated 20.06.2022 and entered into force on that date.
Implementation
ARTICLE 12 – This directive shall be implemented by the Head of the within the Department of Foreign Language Education, English Language Education Program at TED University Faculty of Education.
