What did We Do in ELE in 2019?

In the first days of 2020, we wanted to evaluate what we did as a department in the last year. We can say that the biggest gain of 2019, where we experienced many firsts, was the projects we started with the Turkish Education Association Foreign Languages Headquarters. As a first step, we started our project, and we planned to bring more TED Ambassadors, 6 students who will graduate in the fall semester. We sent our students 6 different TED schools in Turkey. Thus, both sides got to know each other better and our students had the opportunity to live with different dimensions than their internship in the school environment. We hope to develop and expand the project, which has a very positive outcome for all participants and we receive a very positive feedback.
One of the most important projects for our department was to play an active role in the preparation and execution of the 2019-2020 training program of the Full Support Scholarship Project, which is carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Education Association and TED University. The 4th and 3rd year students who are carrying out the lessons together with the instructors working in the English Language School are observed by the 2nd years and preparing for the coming years. We believe this is a very important opportunity for our students who learn to teach by teaching English to Grade 9, 10 and 11 students.
Another first was our invitation for a meeting all the English Language Teaching Programs all over Turkey. We hosted the 1st ELT Students on June 21, 2019 and the 1st ELT Departments Meeting on June 28, 2019 for the first time to bring together those who received training in the field to evaluate the teacher training process as a whole. The report prepared at the end of these meetings was presented to Higher Education Institution (YÖK), Ministry of National Education (MONE) and Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).
Our department staff also had a very active year by presenting oral presentations, broadcasting, hosting various schools in our university, giving in-service trainings and inviting guests to various events. We wish 2020 to be an effective and productive year.
